Drama: Miss No Good

Jiang Xiao Hua is a jewelry store owner with no sense of style. When prince charming Jia Si Le comes back from Japan with intentions of dating her, she blackmails Tang Men, a poison-tongue style guru, into helping her become a lady worthy of Si Le.

I can't believe how quickly this series went. This has been one of the better dramas I've watched in a very, very long time, and I was genuinely sad when I clicked 'View Episode 12' and suddenly it said it was the series finale.

When I first started watching this, I really didn't like it much. I thought Rainie as Xiao Hua (usually my favourite ever!) was weak in this drama. I hated her cringey, squeaky voice (OTT Y____Y;) and come on! - let's be honest... - they could have made her wig a little more realistic. I don't know, I'm probably just used to seeing Rainie more refined and preened, in her usual roles. I was relieved when they got rid of the wig though!

Even after all this, MNG grew on me and I loved the plot! It was original and kept me guessing until the last episode. I actually really liked Rainie and Wilbur Pan as a couple: in the drama obviously. Who knows, maybe they'll even be the new Rainie Yang and Mike He for me...

Anime: Lucky Star

Lucky Star is one of those cutesy series. It revolves around four best friends who are at high school, and there isn't an in-depth or serious storyline. Each episode has a mini storyline - but the main one is how the four girls get through high school, with their clashing personalities.

My favourite characters are Konata and Kagami. Konata is incredibly nerdy and coooool ;) She is obsessed with video games, anime and manga, and I think she's more tomboyish than her friends. Kagami is a fraternal twin of Tsukasa and she is loud and outgoing.

The series focuses on Konata, Kagami, Tsukasa and Miyuki's friendship, and their random escapades along the way. It's probably one of my favourite animes to date, and I'd recommend it for an easy watch, where you don't have to think, and simply watch for leisure.

Food: Yukimi Daifuku 雪見だいふく

Food enthusiast alert!

I thought I'd write about food today. I tried mochi ice-cream a few months ago, and still haven't grown out of it. My parents used to buy it all the time, but it isn't as readily available anymore unfortunately. Yukimi Daifuku, or mochi ice-cream, is a ball of soft vanilla ice-cream wrapped in mochi and best served fresh out of the freezer.

I personally eat mochi ice-cream when it's been left out to defrost a little, so the ice-cream is a little softer than usual. It comes in different flavours, including vanilla, chocolate and green tea, and I'm sure many more that I'm yet to try!

If you have access to a Japanese/Asian supermarket, I'd definitely recommend you to go and buy a box of these. So. Good!

In case anyone hadn't already noticed from reading my posts on here, I'm a huge Rainie Yang fan xD I've been anticipating this album for so long, and Rainie usually releases albums annually, so this year was just one big build-up.

The theme for this album was maturity: Rainie is now onto her fourth album, and I guess people were just expecting her to grow up from some of her old material, since she's been in the entertainment industry from the age of 16. I absolutely love a ballad, so this was no problem for me, and I was pleasantly surprised by her new release. It isn't what I'd expected at all, and you can really see a shift in maturity and vocal range.

Overall, I'm happy if not a bit disappointed with this album. I really like the album art: Rainie looks so beautiful and classy in the photoshoot, but keeps the typical Rainie 'kawaii' look about her. And thank God she got rid of that jellyfish hairdo from earlier this year. Where the songs are good, they're very good, but when they're bad, they're awful.

The first song (太烦恼) was totally weak on the vocals, but most of the album does not dissappoint. Rainie's vocals are getting stronger, except for the first song ofc lol. I absolutely hate "爱我请 Shut Up" because she sounds like she's singing "shullup" instead of "shut up" aha. I'd say download the album, and skip to 带我走, 冷战 and 幸福的节拍.

Big Bang is back... again! Truth be told, I never really took very to this band when Sharon told me about them. I was immersed in my ballads phase (still am) and wasn't in the market for Korean music at all. But then I figured Number 1 was a seriously good album (their Japanese edition of this), so I gave it a try.

Immediately, the first thing I LOVED about the album was that there were fully fledged, non-accented Korean versions of Haru Haru and Remember at last. Those are two of my all-time favourites on this album. It also features some new songs, including my favourite track of the album, 멍청한 사랑 (Foolish Love), and some remixes of older songs from past albums. I loved the Last Farewell remix! Definitely a must-have album for any Kpop fan.

Miss No Good (不良笑花) - Taiwanese Drama Series

Sorry I've been gone from here for so long ): College work and uni applications have taken over my life lol. I've started watching Miss No Good at last, now that I have a few minutes to myself, so here's a quick starting review, and I'll probably add more to this when I finish watching the series.

So far, MNG is really cute and light-hearted. I've only seen two episodes, and the themes have already gone from comedy, to a more serious theme. Obviously there is some romance ;) Rainie Yang plays the lead, Xiao Fa, a girl who is unfashionable and loud but runs a jewellery store. As a child, she made friends with a er, fat kid at school, who asked her to marry him. Aw. A couple years down the line, and he is back to win her over =OO He lost weight and is "good-looking" (note: why don't I see this?!) Xiao Fa realises she needs to change to make sure she doesn't embarass the wealthy Jia Si Le, and enlists the help of his friend (she doesn't know they're friends!) to change her image.

There's like a million and one things going on at the same time in this drama. So many twists and turns! Although the ending was a bit suckish... and they could have done so much more with it to make it better and not as typical. But I won't ruin any more of it for you - watch it =D

Hot Gimmick - manga review

The story revolves around Hatsumi Narita, a passive 16-year old girl who lives in a company housing complex that is ruled by the tyrannical Mrs. Tachibana, the wife of the company's vice president. How a family behaves in the housing complex can affect an employee's status in the company. When her promiscuous younger sister Akane thinks she might be pregnant, poor Hatsumi gets talked into buying her a pregnancy test. Unfortunately, things don't go exactly as planned and Hatsumi is blackmailed by Ryoki Tachibana, the bratty, geeky teenage son of the powerful Tachibana family who bullied her as a kid, into being his slave.

I LOVED THIS SERIES! that's all i have to say about it really..
it's a shoujo manga so it's like a boy-likes-girl situation but with so many twists to it that i wouldn't call it a typical shoujo manga. There's a lot of potential guys for Hatsumi so you don't know for sure who's gonna end up with you, which is why i really liked it.
I also really like the drawings but then again i don't really mind drawings in manga (it's more the story i'm after). The guys were drawn really errm well :D and the lead girl, Hatsumi wasn't made out to be this overly pretty (OTA) girl but she was still really "kawaii".
The plot was also really good.. not to overly complicated but not "guessable". Plus i HATE it when a manga series is tooo long, i just end up getting bored and Hot Gimmick is only 12 volumes so you don't get bored easily with it. There's just the right mix of romance stuff, sad/soppy stuff and comedy in it so..

I watched the first few episodes of this series agesss ago but the characters sort of put me off so i left it at that. But weeks later i still wondered why it was one of the most viewed series in mysoju ever. So i gave it another chance and i actually cant stop watching it now! I've gotten over the sometimes cringey acting from both the male and female leads and tbh the plot is actually really unique and that's what i love about it. But apparently, the producers spent a lot of money on the pilot epi (and the series on the whole) though i don't think it's an eye-catching of a series as say.. Hana Yori Dango was. I'm still on ep14 and after i finish the whole series i'll do a post on it or i'll probably just update this one :)

I wanted to make a list of dramas worth watching for people who have no idea what watch atm or have only just started watching a few asian dramas.
Just because I used to search for hours and hours (okk slight exageration ) for a good drama to watch and i usually just get bored after 10 mins of watching...
so i hope this list helps people avoid that ^

Korean Drama :

Goong (Princess Hours) - Yoon Eun Hye is in it.. s'all good :)
Coffee Prince - i loved the cast again YEH is the main girl plus a really hot guy who i always forget the name of!
My Girl - LEE DONG WOOK yupp 'nuff said. Cute story + i loved the girl in it (Lee Da Hae)
Full House - Bi Rain and Song Hye Gyo... really funny although could be more romantic ^^
Autumn Tale - one of the older ones and it's completely different to the rest. if you like crying your eyes out then this one's for you

J Dorama

Hana Yori Dango 1+2 - I cannot recommend this enough. JUST GO WATCH IT OK?! loll
A litre of tears - i actually did cry a litre of tears. not so much a romance drama but it got me so .. ;]
Nodame Cantabile - "gyaboooo" o___0 no i am not psycho.. you'll get it when you watch the drama
Hotaru no Hikari - stars Ayase Haruka
Gokusen 1-3 - It's not exactly a "must watch" but watching a comic drama about a school of japboys doesn't hurt a bit xD

Taiwanese Drama :

Meteor Garden - the drama that started it all... watch it if you haven't (Barbie + Zaizai)
Mars - the drama after the drama that started it all ;P hahah same leads
Devil Beside You - Mike He and Kingone anyone? dont forget Rainie Yang too :)
Why Why love - the trio again but completely different story. I prefered this one though
It Started with a kiss - cuteee girl-loves-guy-who-doesn't-care-but-then-falls-for-thegirl-but-doesn't- admit-it-till-the-end story

These are my top recommendations... i've only inculded the ones i consider are "must watch" and 7/10 chances, people who look at this will probably have seen all of it cos these are the most popular ones but then again some might not ;)

PS i know posts have been so irregular for the past month or so... i've just been on holiday so i haven't updated the blog for ageess (thanks michelle for keeping it up though ^^ ). Things are starting to fall back into place though and i will be posting more soon :)

So sorry we haven't been around much lately. It's the summer and we're all enjoying ourselves ;) I'm probably going to watch another few series and review them before college starts again though!

Can't wait for: Superstar Express! Jiro Wang and Rainie Yang; what could be better?! I've seen some filming caps and the outfits are slightly dodgy, but I still can't wait!

Rolling Love (Taiwanese Series)

I'm still watching this drama xD So I may repost this when I'm done. I just realised I hadn't posted here for about a month - eek! Main reason for watching this series in the first place was that Jiro Wang plays the lead *swoons* The story revolves around two storylines so far: one where Xiao Shu (played by Genie Zhuo) is blinded by a car accident caused by her then-kind of-boyfriend, Leng Lie. LL then spends his life regretting the accident and trying to make up for it with his world-famous dishes. (He's a top chef!) By chance, Xiao Shu meets Mi Xi Lin (played by Jiro Wang) who charms her with his random and quirky ways. MXL is also a chef, who excels only in one dish - egg fried rice. Obviously, MXL falls in love with Xiao Shu, but disaster keeps striking.

edit:// finished the series! I cried about three times in the last 5 episodes. It was so emotional. This is definitely worth watching if you like idol-dramas.

Hana Yori Dango - korean remake!

Such a late post! omg.
But i just couldn't help it...
this news came out earlier this year (around april i think) but i've only been able to find out about it recently (this morning actually =/) hahha
I practically read the whole article with my mouth open! I can't believe they're re-making it =D

Both the Taiwanese and the Japanese versions were very popular all over asia. Even though i saw the Taiwanese version first... i fell in love with the Japanese version (highly due to Matsujun playing Domyouji ;)

I hope the Korean version stays true to the manga just as the two other versions did! I think this was one of the factors that made the previous versions extremely popular and changing the storyline in anyway would upset fans who've gotten to know and love the characters.

The production team in charge of the remake will be Group Eight (as selected by the orginial writer of the manga, Kamio Yoko). Group Eight were also responsible for producing other popular dramas such as Goong S and Fantasy Couple.
Group Eight have have said that “rather than casting based on popularity alone, we’re going for actors in the Korean F4 who fit the original characters best". I agree with what they've said and i think choosing actors based just on popularity would be a big mistake... i think they would certainly have to have that "ooompf" xD and deliver the personality and charisma that each F4 character oooozes (namely hanawa rui! loll)
Currently, the favourite to play Makino Tsukushi is Yoon Eun Hye but it's still not final so this could still change... i 'd also like to see Lee Dong Wook play a part in the series (I loved him in my girl ^^ )
Howeverr,. i've read that Kim Hyun Jung has been chosen to play Rui. I haven't really seen him in a drama so i can't say if i like him or not..
i've seen a couple of his pictures and yeahh he's pretty cute but i hope it's not just his face he'll bring to the table ^^

Halo-Halo (literally "mix-mix" in english) is a filipino dessert :)
It's a combination of jellies, beans, crushed ice topped with milk (the sweet kind) and a scoop of ube ice cream (purple yam flavoured ice-cream).
For someone not acquainted with filipino food/culture, it may sound disgusting or whatever but it really isn't! It's perfect for cooling down on a hot day in the summer maybe... but if you live in Philippines you can have it all year 'round =D since it feels like summer everyday of the year! Brings back memories of when i used to live in phili...
everytime we go for vacation, i make a DAILY trip to SM Mall or to the nearest Chow King (a popular food chain in the Philippines) to have my daily dose of Halo-Halo ;)

Nodame Cantabile review!

I've watched this series twice already and it just gets better everytime!
The male lead is played by Hiroshi Takami while the female lead is Juri Ueno (pics below).

"Megumi Noda, or “Nodame” is a piano student at Momogaoka College of
Music. An extremely talented pianist who wants to be a kindergarten teacher, she
prefers playing by ear rather than reading the music score. She is messy and
disorganized, takes baths several days apart and loves to eat, sometimes
stealing her friend’s lunchbox when it is filled with delicacies.
Shinichi
Chiaki, is Momogaoka’s top student. Born into a musical family, he is talented
in piano and violin and has secret ambitions to become a conductor. An arrogant
multi-lingual perfectionist who once lived abroad in the music capitals of the
world as a young boy, he feels mired in Japan because of a childhood phobia.
They meet by accident. Nodame quickly falls in love, but it takes much

To start, I'd like to say that i loved everysingle one of the actors/actresses in this drama. Everyone had such a unique part to play and as you watch the drama, you find yourself falling in love with the characters.

"Nodame"/ Noda Megumi

Juri Ueno definately delivered in this series as Nodame. It's hard to believe that such a cute/"kawaii" girl like her could ever play another role as a lesbian in another drama! But anyway, Nodame one of the central characters in the drama. She attends the same music college as Chiaki (played by Hiroshi) and their appartments/rooms are next door to eachother (leads to countless incredibly funny moments with Nodame and Chiaki). Although she's sometimes messy, sloppy and steals her friends' "bento", she has a child-like innocent personality (don't forget top notch skills in piano) which everyone develops a soft spot for... including me ^.<

Chiaki Sinichi

Chiaki, on the other hand, is much more restricted in that he cannot even fulfill his lifelong dream of returning to Europe to perform as a conductor due to his phobia of planes. Compared to Nodame, Chiaki is much more on point and is much stricter than the free-spirited Nodame... to the point that he smacks Nodame around the face (comically of course) for missing a note while they were playing piano to cleaning out Nodame's WHOLE dump of a room when they had not even known each other properly xD. Although he doesn't like Nodame in the slightest bit at the start, he does warm up to her quickly... Chiaki doesn't show his feelings for Nodame, you can see it in the little glances and sneaky smiles he gives her. He looks out for her, even though she can't see that, he helps her improve and grow up :) n'awwwr

Unlike a lot of dramas i've seen, Nodame Cantabile is, in my opinion, well paced. It doesn't drag unnecessarily and I don't find myself forwarding a whole lot of boring scenes (cos there aren't any really ^^ )
I really liked the "cuteness" of the whole drama.. it actually feels like you're reading a shoujo manga.
It's comic while being romantic without being too sappy.
I'd give it a 9-10/10
just cos i can't decide properly =/

i loooovee this series by Nakamura Yoshiki..completely original and the content isn't the same worn out boy meets girl, girl meets boy blahhhhhh.....

Even if Kyoko works three jobs, can't afford nice clothes and makeup, and doesn't attend high school, she still feels like a fairytale princess because she is living with her very own prince charming, her childhood friend and new pop idol Sho. Unfortunately, Kyoko discovers that Sho's feelings for her are less than glamorous; in fact, he is only interested in her as a maid and housekeeper. On learning this, Kyoko's sweet and innocent dreams are replaced forever by one desperate dream: to get revenge! She will do anything to beat Sho at his own game, show business, whether it be scraping gum off floors or carrying actresses across mountains! But, can getting revenge regain what she has lost: the ability to love?

I came across the series on the "most popular manga" part of mangafox.
Anyway I started reading it partly because of how good the drawings were (i actually cannot read old manga purely because the drawings just put me off), but even in the first few pages of the first chapter it was actually pretty funny (i also love cutesy/funny drawings -- they make me actually make me lol XD).
Not for those that want the soppy, doki doki storyline all the way through... can't talk much cause that includes me at times but this is worth the read! The series is currently ongoing but its a pretty long story so unless you read non stop you're good for content ^.^
This manga is definitely in my favourites: funny, unique and soo cute at the same time, I'd read the first few chapters atleast before deciding on reading / not reading it!

I got one word for this guy and that is CUUUUTE! No matter what character he plays.. his baby-face still gets me!
For me his best role was in Full House (KDrama)

8. Matsumoto Jun

MatsuJun doesn't particularly have that HOTTT look but he does have a lot of cuteness to offer ;)
I fell in love with him in Hana Yori Dango and if you haven't seen it.. scrap whatever i said about seeing a particular movie or drama and go SEE THIS ONE!
PS. I can't wait for HYD movie coming out this summer!

7. Jiro Wang

I say he has one of the best smiles in this list... He's part of a group called Fahrenheit where each of the four members represent a season. Jiro represents summer; or HOT

6. Yamapi

He's part of a group called NEWS... sings, acts, dances. Pretty much everything you could wish for in a boy xD haah..! He was in the popular JDrama "Nobuta wo Produce" and "Kurosagi". Also, the new "Kurosagi" movie just came out this summer so go check it out!

5. Vic Zhou

The first one that caught my eyes.. haaha! Back in 2001 (i think) when Meteor Garden aired in Philippines. The quiet and mysterious Hua ze Lei aaah the memories :)

4. Arron Yan

He's in the same boy band as Jiro Wang (#7) but he represents the opposite of Jiro... winter; or cold. I dunno why tbh, he's the complete opposite of cold! His smile alone is waaarghh! LOL

3. Joo Ji Hoon

He was working as a model until he was cast as a lead to the drama Goong (KDrama). The drama was widely known all over Korean, all over Asia as a matter of fact!
After the drama ended, all four of the leads went bigggg! He got more and more modelling contracts and was considered to be one of the best male models in Korea.

2. Mike He

I love his deep voice, his face, his eyes.. everything about him basically. I'm not even gonna claim him for myself because I have already chosen a wife for himm = Rainie Yang. Those two should just be together.. blatantly!

LAST BUT NOT LEAST...

1. Nishikido Ryo

He's probably not as well known as the rest of the guys i picked but i still picked him as 1#. I loved him in "1 Litre of Tears" (JDrama).. He's got a bad boy type of attitude and he's the bully (in a nice & funny way) of his group called NEWS (same as Yamapi). Since he's the top male entry, i also decided to include a video of him :)

This vid is an mv of the drama Ryo was in (1 Litre of Tears) where the main girl has a disease and she gets worse and worse as time goes on. In this part of the series, she has already lost the ability to run or even walk properly. Her friends turn their back on her so Ryo helps her.

I originally started watching this because everyone was likening it to be Devil Beside You's sequel. Which it wasn't xD It has the same cast as DBY, so the chemistry between Rainie and Mike were still there. The same love triangle is in this series, which really confused me o___O' but it was still really cute. I'd say this series was much more dramatic than DBY, which was mostly cute. There's still some pretty shabby acting from the parents all round (the same woman plays Tong Jia Di's mum as Qi Yue in DBY) but this is one of my favourite dramas ^_^ I cried so much when I watched this ahahhaha - you'll find that when I post more LOL!

Definitely worth watching :)

I was really iffy on this because i couldn't decide whether to watch it or not. The korean version of MY GIRL was and is definately one of my favourites and i was scared that this version would ruin it for me :\ and i've never really been a fan of the "Kimerald" (Kim and Gerald) pairing but i watched the pilot episode out of curiousity.
I heard from a couple of people (namely the co-writer of this blog) that "Kimerald" was a bit too "pa sweet" to the point of being cheesy so i expected cheeeesee when i watched the first epi but it wasn't the case at all!
Yeah.. sure. Some scenes were over-the-top but none, so far, have made me chuck my slippers at the screen! Kim Chui's acting definately surprised me because.. well.. she's actually really funny in this series! Not cringey at all, as i expected. Gerald Anderson wasn't too bad but he could still improve. I think he looks a bit young for the part.. so does Kim actually but you get over it soon enough.
I dont think its any way better than the korean version but it is really growing on me to the point that i actually wait for it to be posted online! haah
watch it and tell me what you think! :)

i forgot to mention... watch out for supporting actor Enchong Dee! He plays Gerald's cousin in the show + major eye candy too! ^^

Koizora - Sky of Love

I watched this recently after a friend of mine recommended it saying she cried like a baby while watching this and to add that the main actor was "hotttt" xD
It more or less had the same effect on me...
its not one of those predictable romantic movies out there which is definately a plus. It did seem all too sweet at first but what can you expect from a "cell phone short story"?... not that im complaining really.
Im not going to say who,what,where happens because im gonna leave that for you to find out ;)
but all in all i enjoyed it and i would definately recommend you see it!
